Modern & Massive 2 – External Groove Support & MIDI Pack Compatibility
Modern & Massive 2 – External Groove Support & MIDI Pack Compatibility
Hi everyone,
I wanted to share a quick update regarding the recent release of Modern & Massive 2 from GGD and how it affects users of my MIDI groove packs.
GGD have officially moved away from Kontakt with this new release, introducing a brand new standalone/plugin format with a redesigned groove player. It’s a big step forward in terms of interface and performance—but it also comes with a notable change:
No Direct Support for External MIDI Grooves
As it stands, Modern & Massive 2 does not allow for third-party MIDI groove packs to be imported directly into the internal groove browser. This means you won’t be able to add my packs (or any other non-GGD grooves) to show up inside the plugin’s native groove player.
I’ve tested this, and at the moment, GGD only supports officially released groove packs tied to their own products.
But There’s Good News
My MIDI packs still work perfectly in the following scenarios:
• Using previous GGD Kontakt versions: If you own the Kontakt-based versions of any GGD libraries, the built-in groove browser still works with third-party grooves as it always has via the external MIDI folder.
• Dragging directly into your DAW: You can still use the MIDI files by dragging and dropping them from your folder/ file browser into your DAW.
• For best results in Modern & Massive 2 using DIY MIDI Packs, I recommend setting the Modern and Massive 2 kit mapping to GarageBand Drums or Logic Pro Drummer if you are dragging grooves from the DIY folder to your DAW.
• This provides the closest playback match to how the grooves were originally written.
Looking Ahead
While there’s currently no official word from GGD on whether third-party groove support will be added to Modern & Massive 2, I hope that they’ll introduce a way to access external MIDI folders in a future update.
In the meantime, I’ll continue testing. If anything changes, I’ll be sure to let you know here and via email.
Thanks so much for your continued support!
